Artist Bio

Based in Wānaka, New Zealand, Tracey Rountree is a mixed-media artist known for bold, three-dimensional wall artworks that challenge traditional notions of surface and form. Working primarily with batik fabrics and stitched elements, her sculptural pieces often take inspiration from the shapes of leaves and the natural rhythms found in the environment.

Although she has no formal art education, Tracey holds three academic degrees, bringing a strong sense of inquiry and problem-solving to her creative practice. Tracey’s work is characterised by vibrant colour, unexpected construction, and a deliberate ambiguity in materials and process.

Wānaka’s thriving art scene has played an important role in shaping Tracey’s artistic journey, providing a supportive and inspiring environment for experimentation. Her distinctive artworks are designed to command space — bold, beautiful, and unapologetically unusual.
